In Darkest Dungeon, explorers don’t just have to bandage their wounds and sharpen their axes—their biggest vulnerability is their minds. The new Tomb Raider games show Lara Croft dealing.
All current MMOs seem to spend a lot of money on producing 'levelling content', which is ultimately a waste since the content is generally faceroll, uninteresting and immediately obsolete, while endgame content doesn't get the attention it deserves. Is there any game (released or announced) which simply consists of a set of dungeons and raids from the start, with more frequent content, and an absolute commitment to balance and keeping the integrity of the competitive scene? It seems this is what most players of MMORPGs would ultimately prefer, but I can't find any. The world is part of the package of MMOs, and the best way to experience the world is to go out and quest in it, and level.

Players need a sense of progression and an advancement of their character.I'm trying to imagine an MMO without levelling and all I can imagine is a bland box with several doors, each leading to a dungeon or raid. Sure, the dungeons and raids may be lovingly crafted feats of excellence, but what happens when you're done with the dungeon? You'd go back to this bland box and wait for the next dungeon or raid. What do you do in the meantime? Where is the world?Perhaps provide more information for what you'd imagine this 'ideal' MMO to be. Personally I don't see it working, but maybe I'd be more understanding with some more information about what you want? What do you do in the meantime? Where is the world?Well, you could see it as League of Legends, except you wouldn't join PvP battlegrounds but rather dungeons and raids.Or as WoW, where the world only consists of a room with bank, auction house, vendors, trainers and portals to all dungeons and raids, and new characters start at maximum level. Where is the world?Monster Hunter is very much like this, but instead of a 'bland box' you get to hang out in a thriving town that contains everything you need from vendors to smiths to a tavern where you and your comrades can get drunk and goof around between instanced battles against giant monsters. With the right people the hub area is even more fun than the gameplay, which is saying a lot. The endurance of the game relies on both the crafting system and the fact that the gameplay is incredibly fun and rewarding on its own merits rather than just a trial you have to repeatedly steamroll until you finally get that random drop you've been grinding all day/week/month for.I would LOVE to see a fantasy MMORPG that had this type of hub/instance system with nothing but dungeons and PvP. Open-world is highly overrated and sometimes you don't want an epic story that takes you around a sprawling world as you slowly grown in power to save the universe; sometimes you just want to get some friends together and tear shit up as a team. Sometimes you don't want to be the 'chosen one' or slay the world-eating big bad; sometimes you just want to be a normal guy forging his own story.
